JOHNNY OTIS
(December 28, 1921 – January 17, 2012)
 (Born, Loannis Alexandres Veliotes)

Mr. Johnny Otis
– THE GODFATHER OF RHYTHM and BLUES – was a political activist, preacher, artist, author, DJ, and even an organic farmer!

But of course his main claim to fame is his place in the world of music (he even played drums on the ORIGINAL “Hound Dog” by Big Mama Thornton!!!)...
  Check out another
Otis/Thornton performance…

Johnny Otis, in addition to being a talented drummer, piano and vibes player; as well as a vocalist, was also a conduit for novices in need of a break. The man was pure class...

DECEMBER 4, 1960: Kathy Young’s “1000 Stars” hits #3 on the Charts

December 4, 1960:

After reaching #28 with their first chart entry, "Honest I Do", earlier in the year, The Innocents hooked up with  Kathy Young  and attain their only US Top 10 hit when

"A Thousand Stars" tops out at #3...

The Innocents scored again with a second solo single, "Gee Whiz", hitting #28 with the tune in 1961...

 BUT, A THOUSAND STARS
with The Innocents as a back-up group for Kathy Young remains their sole "monster" hit...
