Marvin Gaye hits #1 with 

 
       In 1976 Disco was a hot genre on the scene, but Marvin Gaye, true musician that he was,  refused to record in the dance club style which, he claimed, “lacked substance.”  But, when he finally succumbed to the “suggestions” from Motown that he record in the genre,

 he produced this masterpiece of Funk with Funk-Jazz influences as his “Disco Classic”…
