February 8, 1990: Del Shannon dies of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at home in Santa Clara, California.…






Charles Westover, who would become Del Shannon, was the waterboy for the Coopersville Michigan High School football team when he asked a girl (“Karen”) to the prom. She accepted, only to dump Westover two weeks later for one of young Charles’ rivals. This put the waterboy in a deep depression…





Shannon was working with ELO’s Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty on a creative effort to be called “Rock On” and was slated to replace the recently deceased Roy Orbison in The Traveling Wilburys when he unexpectedly committed suicide on February 8, 1990...
