April 17, 1955:  Fats Domino's "Ain't That a Shame", which Billboard erroneously lists for months as "Ain't It a Shame", is released on Commodore Records. It will rise to the top of the Billboard R&B chart and #10 on the Pop chart, becoming the first of 37 Top 40 hits The Fat Man will have over the next eight years…
"Ain't That a Shame" is a song recorded by Fats Domino and Dave Bartholomew, in Hollywood, California, for Imperial Records and released in 1955 The recording ("Ain't It a Shame") was a hit for Domino, eventually selling a million copies. It reached #1 on the "Black Singles" chart and #10 on the "Pop Singles" chart. The song is ranked #431 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. (From Wikipedia)

Pat Boone was quick to cover the tune, garnering a #1 hit for Boone  on the BILLBOARD “Most Played In Juke Boxes” charts…
(Fats was quick to thank Boone for the royalties, by the way…)
Cheap Trick covered it in their 1979 album “Live at Budokan” The tune charted at #35…
Ann Arbor’s BROWNSVILLE STATION covered the tune, but it’s not available on YouTube (Sorry)…
AND a Tanya Tucker  cover…
Of course Brother John Lennon covered the tune on his 1975 ROCK ‘N ROLL album…
Gary Glitter did a weak-ass cover
Franki Valli and his Four Seasons did it in ’63…

And Hank’s boy, Hank Williams Junior, kicked ass on the tune as late as 2007…

Not a bad first effort, eh?!?
