July 13: A day for releasing hit records!


July 13: A day for releasing hit records, it appears; with The Shirelles (1959), The Beatles (1964),  Steppenwolf (1968) and Eric Clapton (1974) all releasing hits!!!—

1959: The Shirelles, "Dedicated To The One I Love"
was minor hit for The Shirelles in 1959, but after The "5" Royales saw a re-release of their own version (The Original)  chart at #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961, The Shirelles re-released their version and watched it rocket up the chart to #3!!!



1964: The Beatles, 

"A Hard Day's Night" 
The American single began its 13-week chart run on five days after release, and on 1 August started a two-week long run at the top, setting a new record—nobody before had ever held the number one position on both the album and singles charts in the United Kingdom and the United States at the same time…


1968: Steppenwolf's, 

"Born To Be Wild"
 was the band's third single off their debut album and became their most successful single, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine placed "Born to be Wild" at No. 129 on the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. In 2009, it was named the 53rd best hard rock song of all time by VH1…


1974: Eric Clapton, released his version of the Bob Marley classic
 "I Shot The Sheriff" 
(Clapton’s only #1Hit)
