SIMPLY RED—Remember that band?
Well, it started out in ’82 as
"The Frantic Elevators”

HOLDING BACK THE YEARS
The original 1982 recording by Mick Hucknell’s first band
—THE FRANTIC ELEVATORS
--released on the No Waiting label…

The last of four singles released by “The Frantic Elevators”
—Mick “Red” Hucknall's early punk/blues band…

Simply Red’s first single, MONEY’S TOO TIGHT TO MENTION, was released in 1985 hitting UK’s Top Twenty Chart and achieving some success in The U.S.

Their debut album entitled “Picture Book” was also released in 1985, containing the updated version of the old Frantic Elevators’ HOLDING BACK THE YEARS—The tune hit #1 on The U.S. Charts!
Released as Simply Red's third single in 1985, the track initially placed outside the UK top 50. However upon being re-released in 1986, "Holding Back The Years" became a major hit, peaking at #1 in Ireland, #2 in Great Britain, #3 in the Netherlands, #20 in Italy and later #1 in the United States…

The song established Simply Red as a household name…

The next (and last) U.S. Chart Topper was part of the band’s third album, “A New Flame,” and adopted more of a mainstream feel with a great cover of Harold Melvin and The Blue Note’s pop classic
IF YOU DON’T KNOW ME BY NOW

The song hit the top of The U.S. Chart
on July 11, 1989…
