Muddy Waters
Opened the show with
“I Got My Brand on You”
Did his classic (Willie Dixon penned)
“Hoochie Coochie Man”
And the standard
“Baby Please Dont Go”
“Soon Forgotten”
The timely “Tiger in Your Tank”
“Feel So Good”
Covered Ann Cole’s
“Got My Mojo Working”
—and made it his own!
And, according to the official set list, Muddy closed his show with a jam he called “Goodbye Newport Blues”
—I can’t find a postable copy of that tune, but it is available on The Complete Muddy Waters 1947-1967 (Compilation)
That was Muddy Waters
bringin’ The Blues into the mainstream at
The Newport Jazz Festival,
In 1960…
