August 30, 1969: The 3-day Texas International Pop Festival opens at the Dallas International Motor Speedway. Performers included Chicago Transit Authority, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin and Santana…



August 30, 1969: The Texas Internatrional Pop Festival opens in Lewisville, Texas…

The Festival began at 4:00 p.m. each day. Who else but MICHIGAN ROCKERS, 
Grand Funk Railroad, opened all 
three days 
and played through the afternoon heat 
till 4:00 p.m….

BB King, taking a side trip from his 
Rolling Stones Tour,  
 played all three nights…



Saturday, August 30:
Canned Heat, hot after their 
Woodstock 
appearance
 opened the show…




Chicago Transit Authority asked 
if these Texans if they knew if it was 
25 til 
or actually six to four…




James Cotton Blues Band KILLED
(of course)...



 

Janis Joplin showed her Homies what 
she’d done at Woodstock, too…

Herbie Mann was pushing his single 
WATERBED...


Rotary Connection, 
Featuring Minnie Ripperton was a treat…



Sam and Dave close the first night of 
The Texas International Pop Festival…
