"Paint It, Black"

March 6, 1970:  Charles Manson releases an album called "Lie" to help raise money for his defense in the Tate-LeBianca murder trial. The album jacket is made to look like a cover of Life magazine with the letter f removed from the word Life. In the mid sixties, Manson had been a wanna-be musician who befriended Beach Boys' drummer Dennis Wilson, eventually talking the group into recording one of his songs, "Cease To Exist". The title was changed to "Never Learn Not To Love" and was released as the "B" side of the single "Bluebirds Over The Mountain", which eventually climbed to number 61 in the US in early 1969, giving Manson a hit record on Billboard's Hot 100

March 6,1989: Smokey Robinson published his first biography, Inside My Life, in which he reveals for the first time that he once struggled with an addiction to crack

Robinson went solo in 1972, creating a more mellow sound for himself. Often associated with romantic soul music, he released such successful albums as A Quiet Storm (1974) and Touch the Sky (1983). The mid-1980s were a difficult time for him as he battled a drug addiction. Robinson openly discussed his cocaine problem as well as many other personal topics in his 1989 autobiography Smokey: Inside My Life. He has credited his recovery from substance abuse to his religious faith.

For some reason(s), March seems to be a hellava month in the EVOLUTION OF ROCK ‘n ROLL and March 6 is no exception…From the Canadian rockers “The Diamonds” getting’ on board way back in 1957 to Eric Clapton scoring his THIRD entry into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 2000—And ALL that in between--March 6 has been ANOTHER significanT date
